Bitwise Asset Management announced on Dec. 9 that its Bitwise 10 Crypto Index ETF (BITW) has begun trading on NYSE Arca as an exchange-traded product (ETP), marking a significant uplisting from its previous OTCQX quotation. The fund is the world’s largest and longest-running crypto index fund.
Top Holdings: Bitcoin Dominates
BITW tracks the Bitwise 10 Large Cap Crypto Index with active screening and monthly rebalancing. At uplisting, the portfolio weights were: Bitcoin (BTC) 74.34%, Ether (ETH) 15.55%, XRP 5.17%, Solana (SOL) 3.07%, Cardano (ADA) 0.65%, Chainlink (LINK) 0.39%, Litecoin (LTC) 0.26%, Avalanche (AVAX) 0.24%, Sui (SUI) 0.24%, and Polkadot (DOT) 0.14%.
Executive Commentary: Index Approach Reduces Timing Risk
CIO Matt Hougan noted, “Most investors we meet are convinced crypto is here to stay, but they don’t know who the winners will be.” He added that an index-based approach allows participation without predicting market leaders. CEO Hunter Horsley called the uplisting “a watershed moment for crypto as an asset class” and emphasized that 2025 marks the start of rapid mainstream adoption. He predicted index investing via BITW will become one of the most popular ways for investors to gain crypto exposure.
Product Rules and Implications
BITW allocates 90% of holdings to crypto assets already represented by approved single-coin ETPs, with remaining assets collectively capped at 10%. The fund’s advisory board oversees methodology covering liquidity, custody, security, and regulatory factors. As institutional participation expands and regulatory clarity improves, diversified index products like BITW continue to broaden market access and support long-term portfolio strategies.
