Bitwise Asset Management said it is donating $233,000 to Bitcoin open-source developers, making this its second annual contribution linked to the performance of its spot Bitcoin ETF. The money comes from a standing commitment by the firm to allocate 10% of the ETF’s gross profits each year to support Bitcoin network development and security work.

Three nonprofit groups will receive the funds

The donation will be distributed through Brink, OpenSats, and the Human Rights Foundation Bitcoin Development Fund. These organizations fund developers working on essential Bitcoin software, security research, and infrastructure improvements, while also offering grants and fellowships tied to long-term maintenance of the network.

Bitwise said the latest contribution was made possible by continued growth in its Bitcoin ETF over the past year. As the fund expanded, the firm said it was able to increase support for the developers responsible for maintaining the infrastructure behind Bitcoin itself. For Bitwise, the payment is framed as capital going back into the ecosystem that underpins its investment products.

Bitwise calls developers the network’s “unsung heroes”

In its statement, Bitwise described Bitcoin developers as “unsung heroes” who help secure and improve the technology stack behind the network. The asset manager also credited ETF investors, saying the donation would not have been possible without people choosing to invest in the fund.

Bitwise added that its donations are expected to rise as the ETF continues to grow, keeping in place its pledge to direct part of fund profits to the broader Bitcoin development community. The move also reflects a wider pattern in crypto, where more firms and investment products are sending money toward open-source development as institutional interest in Bitcoin keeps building.
