BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) achieved another historic milestone on Tuesday, recording $1.357 billion in trading volume and $520.2 million in net inflows — the largest single-day inflow for any Bitcoin ETF since inception. The world's largest asset manager now holds over 141,000 bitcoins, valued at more than $8 billion, placing IBIT in the top 5% of all U.S. exchange-traded funds by assets under management.
Consecutive Record-Breaking Days
This marks the second consecutive record day for IBIT, following Monday's $1.292 billion volume. Tuesday's volume surged to $1.357 billion, exceeding the previous day's peak. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas highlighted the extraordinary activity on X (formerly Twitter): "IBIT had over 100,000 individual trades today. It was doing 30-60k the whole time up until Tuesday. It's like it found a new gear over Presidents Day weekend."
Inflow Dominance
Balchunas described the $520.2 million inflow as "the biggest haul for a Bitcoin ETF ever" and the second-largest among all ETFs on Tuesday, surpassed only by the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV). He emphasized that such a large portion of the massive volume represented new buying rather than arbitrage or algorithmic trading, indicating genuine demand from investors.
Nine Bitcoin ETFs Surpass $2 Billion in Combined Volume
Collectively, the nine spot Bitcoin ETFs launched in January — including Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), Ark 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB), Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB), Invesco Galaxy Bitcoin ETF (BTCO), WisdomTree Bitcoin ETF (BTCW), VanEck Bitcoin Trust ETF (HODL), Franklin Bitcoin ETF (EZBC), and Valkyrie Bitcoin ETF (BRRR) — traded well over $2 billion on Tuesday. Balchunas noted that IBIT alone traded more than most large-cap U.S. stocks.
The data underscores a massive acceleration in institutional adoption of Bitcoin through regulated ETFs. Since debuting on January 11, these products have attracted tens of billions in trading volume, with BlackRock's IBIT consistently leading the pack. Balchunas concluded: "Another intense volume day for the nine with well over $2B traded. IBIT broke its personal record again w/ $1.3B."
