BlackRock Adds USDe to the Aladdin Ecosystem
BlackRock and Ethena Labs have announced an expanded partnership, making USDe a recognized crypto asset on BlackRock's Aladdin platform—a comprehensive investment and risk management platform that oversees roughly $25 trillion in assets. The integration allows institutional clients to access the synthetic dollar stablecoin through their familiar Aladdin interface without building additional infrastructure. This move signals a significant step toward bridging traditional finance with digital assets.
A New Liquidity Channel for Tokenized Treasuries
Through the tokenization platform Securitize, the firms are providing $100 million in liquidity arrangements for BUIDL, BlackRock's tokenized U.S. Treasury fund. Eligible BUIDL customers can now redeem their tokens for stablecoins such as USDC and USDtb during non-standard trading hours, and conversely exchange those stablecoins back into BUIDL. Robert Mitchnick, BlackRock's Head of Digital Assets, described the arrangement as delivering the frictionless interoperability essential for tokenized Treasury funds. Ethena founder Guy Young emphasized that the next phase of digital asset adoption will be driven by infrastructure that allows traditional institutions to access on-chain products through their existing, familiar systems.
BUIDL's Scale and Industry Implications
Launched on Ethereum mainnet in 2024, BUIDL has grown to become one of the world's largest tokenized U.S. Treasury funds, with a total value locked of approximately $30 billion. BlackRock and Ethena had previously collaborated on the USDtb stablecoin, which is primarily backed by BUIDL. This new liquidity arrangement further streamlines the conversion between on-chain Treasuries and stablecoins, providing critical infrastructure for large-scale institutional participation in tokenized assets. The partnership demonstrates how traditional asset managers can leverage existing platforms like Aladdin to offer seamless access to digital asset products.
