BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) triggered fresh market concerns after on-chain data revealed a large transfer to Coinbase Prime. According to @OnchainLens citing Arkham Intelligence, the asset management giant moved 1,134 Bitcoin (worth approximately $75 million) to the institutional platform within a span of roughly 11 minutes. The transfer consisted of several 300 BTC tranches and one 233.85 BTC transaction, with data suggesting additional deposits may follow.
Swift Deposit of 1,134 BTC to Coinbase Prime
Coinbase Prime serves as a custody and trading venue for institutions, frequently used in the creation and redemption process of Bitcoin ETFs. When an ETF experiences net outflows, authorized participants must move Bitcoin to the exchange to handle redemptions. Conversely, new share creation draws Bitcoin from custody. The direction of this BlackRock transfer aligns with a redemption scenario, fueling speculation that it could translate into sell orders on the open market.
ETF Redemption Risks Loom
While the exact purpose of the transfer remains undisclosed, historical patterns indicate that large ETF-related inflows to exchanges often precede selling pressure. Bitcoin is currently trading in a high-volatility range, and BlackRock's move might prompt other institutional holders to take similar steps. Traders are now watching Coinbase Prime's BTC outflow metrics closely to gauge whether a sustained sell-off is brewing.
