Block, the payments giant formerly known as Square, has united three of its flagship products — Cash App, Square, and Bitkey — for the first time to launch a “Bitcoin Day” campaign, offering up to $1 million in Bitcoin as rewards to encourage real-world usage of the cryptocurrency.

Three Steps to Earn: Buy, Spend, Self-Custody

The event runs from April 6 to April 10. Users start by purchasing Bitcoin inside Cash App to unlock initial rewards. Next, they spend BTC at Square merchants that support Lightning Network payments to earn additional bonuses. Finally, they transfer their Bitcoin to Bitkey, a hardware wallet, for self-custody, completing the full cycle. Each day focuses on one key action — buy, spend, or hold — guiding participants through a complete Bitcoin-powered lifestyle.

Ecosystem Integration Drives Payment Loop

Block's team stresses that Bitcoin's true value lies in seamless integration into daily life. Cash App already has millions of active users buying, selling, and holding Bitcoin. Square helps hundreds of thousands of local merchants across the U.S. accept Bitcoin payments. Bitkey offers a simple self-custody solution for those ready to take control of their assets. This is the first time all three products work together to create a closed-loop experience from fiat on-ramp to payment to cold storage.

Restrictions and Warnings

The company notes that due to varying state regulations, Square's Bitcoin services, Lightning Network support, and Bitkey are not available to customers in New York state. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible, so users should double-check payment details before confirming and remain aware of price volatility risk.
