Blockchain.com has secured official registration with the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as a crypto asset business, enabling it to offer brokerage, custody, and institutional-grade services under one of the world's strictest financial regimes.
FCA Registration: A Compliance Milestone
According to the announcement, Blockchain.com has been a key player in Britain's crypto ecosystem for over a decade. CEO Peter Smith stated: "We've always believed in the importance of getting this right. We are committed to working hand-in-hand with the FCA and UK policymakers as they shape the permanent regulatory framework." Co-founder and Vice Chairman Nic Cary added: "This registration marks our long-term commitment to responsible growth within one of the world's most respected regulatory environments."
Dual Compliance: MiCA and FCA
The company had previously obtained a MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) license, allowing it to operate across the European Economic Area under a single set of rules. The FCA registration strengthens its compliance footing both in the UK and the EU. Looking ahead, the registration positions Blockchain.com advantageously for the new permanent UK regulations expected in 2027.
Expanding Services for Retail and Institutional Clients
With FCA approval, Blockchain.com plans to significantly grow its UK operations, including digital asset custody, wallet services for retail and institutional clients, and compliance and treasury solutions for institutions. The company also aims to enhance brokerage access while fully meeting FCA requirements, steps toward building a secure and compliant crypto environment in the UK.
Since its launch in 2011, Blockchain.com has processed over $1.2 trillion in transactions, created more than 90 million wallets globally, and expanded to 70+ jurisdictions.
