Blockstream Capital Partners (BCP) announced today that it has signed a strategic agreement to acquire the digital asset trading and investment division of Swiss-based Numeus Group, specifically targeting its crypto derivatives and volatility trading capabilities. The move is widely seen as a key step for BCP to strengthen its institutional-grade bitcoin investment platform and deepen its specialized positioning.
Ex-JPMorgan Trading Chief and Team Onboard
According to the announcement, the acquisition will incorporate a series of bitcoin-focused yield generation strategies and bring in a 10-person derivatives trading team led by Numeus co-founder Deepak Gulati. Gulati, formerly global head of proprietary trading at JPMorgan, brings deep experience in both traditional finance and digital asset markets. Post-acquisition, he will serve as co-Chief Investment Officer (Co-CIO) of Blockstream Capital Management, working alongside current CIO Rodrigo Rodriguez to oversee the firm's derivatives and volatility strategies.
Meeting Institutional Demand for Bitcoin Yield and Hedging
PeterPaul Pardi, managing partner at BCP, stated that the firm's growth hinges on top-tier talent, proprietary trading strategies, and rigorous risk management. He noted that Gulati's ability to bridge institutional finance with digital asset market experience, combined with the mature derivatives and volatility capabilities gained through this acquisition, will help address rising institutional demand for bitcoin investment and hedging, while boosting the platform's overall competitiveness.
Leveraging Komainu for Institutional-Grade Operations
The deal will also deepen BCP's strategic partnership with digital asset custodian Komainu, a company BCP previously invested in during its Series B round. Komainu will provide custody, exchange connectivity, collateral management, and enterprise support to ensure institutional-grade operational and compliance standards post-integration. Deepak Gulati expressed confidence in BCP's ambition, expertise, and platform, calling it a potential standard choice for institutional investors managing bitcoin exposure.
Institutionalization Trend Accelerates
Blockstream Capital Partners, part of global bitcoin and blockchain infrastructure firm Blockstream, has been pushing for deeper integration between bitcoin and institutional finance. Through multiple acquisitions in recent years, it has steadily imported traditional financial experience into the bitcoin native ecosystem. Numeus Group, founded in 2021 and headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, is known for its highly quantitative and institutional approach, focusing on derivatives, volatility trading, and asset management. This acquisition not only fills gaps in BCP's bitcoin derivatives and volatility strategy but also signals accelerating institutional capital inflows into the mature bitcoin derivatives market.
