Stablecoin infrastructure company Brale has launched ION Protocol, an interoperability system designed to move participating stablecoins across blockchains through a burn-and-mint model. Under the setup, tokens are burned on one chain and minted on another, rather than being transferred through a traditional bridge structure. The protocol is already live on testnet. Brale said the product is aimed at a stablecoin market that now includes more than 350 tokens with a combined market capitalization above $300 billion, where growth has also brought increasingly fragmented liquidity. Brale contrasted ION with conventional blockchain bridges that rely on pre-funded liquidity pools. The company said ION is built to reduce capital requirements and address liquidity bottlenecks that can emerge as custom stablecoins scale across multiple networks.

Brale said the stablecoin market currently includes more than 350 tokens with a total market capitalization above $300 billion. As the market grows, liquidity has also become more fragmented.

Unlike traditional blockchain bridges that depend on pre-funded liquidity pools, ION is intended to lower capital requirements and tackle liquidity bottlenecks in the expansion of custom stablecoins.
