Breez has launched a feature that lets users send USDC and USDT directly from Bitcoin balances to more than 30 blockchains, using the Lightning Network and automatic conversion. The initial release supports outgoing stablecoin payments only.

Breez has rolled out a new payment feature that lets users send USDC and USDT directly from Bitcoin balances across more than 30 blockchains. The setup combines the Bitcoin Lightning Network with an automatic conversion mechanism, so a user starts with Bitcoin while the recipient receives stablecoins on the destination chain they selected.

Lightning handles the payment flow while stablecoins arrive on the chosen chain

According to Breez, once a sender enters a recipient wallet address, the Breez SDK detects the target network, calculates the best conversion route, and shows the amount, destination network, and transaction fees before approval. The actual conversion and transfer are then handled by liquidity providers including Flashnet and Boltz, which swap Bitcoin into stablecoins and deliver the funds to the selected blockchain.

Roy Sheinfeld said there is no need to issue USDT or USDC directly on Lightning. Through interoperability, the sender pays from a Bitcoin balance, while the recipient gets stablecoins on any supported network.

Bitcoin stays with the user until execution, and the first phase is outbound only

Breez said users continue to hold Bitcoin right up to the moment the payment is executed. On the receiving side, there is no need to manage a separate stablecoin balance in advance, because the funds are delivered on the chosen network. The company also described the feature as non-custodial. In its initial phase, it supports only outgoing stablecoin payments, while incoming stablecoin transfers from external blockchain networks are planned for a later update.

Built for developers looking to avoid multi-chain integration work

Breez framed the launch as a developer-focused tool meant to simplify stablecoin payment integration inside apps. Instead of connecting to each blockchain one by one, developers can use a single integration path. That could let users manage both Bitcoin and stablecoin payments from one balance, cutting down operational complexity inside consumer and business applications. Breez is known for Bitcoin and Lightning payment infrastructure, and its SDK is already used to embed Lightning functions into products and services.

Lightning use cases continue to widen beyond small payments

The release comes as startups test broader commercial and financial uses for Bitcoin and the Lightning Network. In February, institutional trading and lending firm Secure Digital Markets completed a $1 million Bitcoin payment to Kraken over Lightning in under half a second. In the same month, Voltage introduced a revolving credit line tied to Lightning payment flows with U.S. dollar settlement, and event platform Satlantis launched a Bitcoin ticketing system with built-in Lightning wallets. In March, Tether-backed Bitcoin infrastructure startup Ark Labs raised $5.2 million to build technology for stablecoin issuance, transfer, and settlement on Bitcoin.

Adoption metrics are also moving higher. River estimated in February that Lightning Network monthly transaction volume had passed $1 billion by the end of 2025, up from about $12 million in 2021.
