BNB Smart Chain said its Pasteur hard fork will go live on mainnet at 10:30 Beijing time on Aug. 25, or 02:30 UTC, and node operators are required to upgrade to client version v1.7.7 in advance. The upgrade includes three proposals — BEP-682, BEP-695 and BEP-675 — covering cross-chain bridge validation, validator key rotation and governance-related fixes, as well as block-building efficiency improvements. According to BNB Chain, BEP-682 is designed to harden the bridge verification process and prevent privilege bypass risks tied to repeated counting of validator signatures. BEP-695 updates the validator key rotation mechanism so retired keys no longer retain administrative rights, while also addressing potential issues related to slashing and governance voting. On the performance side, BEP-675 reduces time spent on repeated transaction execution by optimizing the block construction process. In BNB Chain’s internal QANet test environment, throughput increased from 1237 TPS to 2324 TPS while block time stayed at 450 milliseconds and the block gas limit remained at 100 million. Average gas used per block rose from 46.35 million to 84.15 million.

BNB Smart Chain, or BSC, said the Pasteur hard fork will be activated on mainnet at 10:30 Beijing time on Aug. 25, which corresponds to 02:30 UTC on the same day. Node operators are required to upgrade to client version v1.7.7 before the rollout.

Three BEPs included in the upgrade

The upgrade bundles three proposals: BEP-682, BEP-695 and BEP-675. The changes focus on cross-chain security, validator governance mechanics and network throughput.

BEP-682 strengthens the validation process for the BNB Chain cross-chain bridge. BNB Chain said the change is meant to prevent privilege bypass risks that can arise when validator signatures are counted more than once, improving the security of cross-chain asset transfers.

BEP-695 updates the validator key rotation mechanism. The stated goal is to ensure old keys no longer retain management authority after exit, while also fixing potential vulnerabilities tied to slashing and governance voting.

BEP-675 targets performance. It optimizes the block-building process to cut the time validators spend on repeated transaction execution.

QANet test results

BNB Chain said that in its internal QANet testing environment, the upgrade lifted throughput from 1237 TPS to 2324 TPS. During those tests, block time remained unchanged at 450 milliseconds and the block gas limit stayed at 100 million.

Under the same setup, average gas used per block increased from 46.35 million to 84.15 million.

Validator and builder focus

According to BNB Chain, the upgrade is mainly aimed at validators and block builders. The network said the objective is to provide more capacity during peak periods and support the throughput expansion target in BNB Chain’s roadmap for the second half of 2026.
