BTSE has launched regulated crypto trading in Indonesia through BTSE Indonesia after the local entity obtained a Digital Financial Assets and Crypto Asset Trading Operator license from the country’s Financial Services Authority, OJK. With that approval in place, the company can legally offer crypto trading services under Indonesian law and work with local banks and payment providers to support Indonesian rupiah deposits, withdrawals, currency conversion, and rupiah-based trading pairs.
Global exchange infrastructure paired with local market operations
Under the partnership structure, BTSE Group is in charge of trading infrastructure, liquidity, and technology support, while the Indonesian team handles customer growth, local business partnerships, marketing, and day-to-day operations. The stated aim is to combine BTSE’s global trading capabilities with local market expertise tailored to Indonesian users.
Jeff Mei, chief operating officer at BTSE Group, said Indonesia has the core ingredients to become one of Asia’s leading crypto markets. He described the setup as a combination of global trading infrastructure and local market knowledge. Stephanie Kusnadi, strategy director at BTSE Indonesia, said the partnership gives the company access to BTSE’s global exchange technology, while keeping the focus on Indonesian users and local regulatory requirements.
License opens fiat rails and prepares ground for product expansion
The OJK approval gives BTSE Indonesia a formal route to expand localized exchange services. Legal crypto trading is one part of that. Access to banking and payment partners is another, because it allows the platform to connect trading activity with local fiat settlement and easier onboarding for users in Indonesia.
The company also said it plans to introduce crypto derivatives products if local rules allow it. That plan comes as competition among licensed operators is becoming more intense, and it points to an effort to strengthen BTSE Indonesia’s market position through a wider product lineup.
Indonesia tightens compliance rules for crypto promotion
BTSE’s move comes as Indonesia is raising compliance standards for crypto businesses. In June 2026, OJK put Regulation No. 6 of 2026 into force, requiring social media influencers who promote crypto assets and other digital financial products to obtain a competency certificate. Those who already hold an approved license are exempt.
The same regulation limits promotional activity to digital assets listed on authorized exchanges and requires all campaigns to be conducted through licensed financial service providers. Responsibility for promotional content remains with those licensed institutions. For crypto firms seeking entry or expansion in Indonesia, the regulatory bar now covers licensing, content controls, and local operating relationships more tightly than before.
