Chip designer Bubble boi said on episode 166 of the BidClub podcast that high-bandwidth flash looks attractive from a technical standpoint, but he does not see a decisive data center use case yet. According to his remarks, the main customers he has heard about are Chinese buyers that struggle to obtain or produce high-end HBM. He said HBF and high-end AI flash both have latency of about 5 microseconds, while bandwidth remains below HBM. Bubble boi added that cost per bit is lower, though total system cost may end up being similar. In his view, the clearest customer group is made up of entities that cannot access HBM, a point he said matches demand signals from China that he heard from two to three people. Those buyers, he said, either cannot fully manufacture accelerators or are willing to accept products that are not at the leading edge.

ChainCatcher reported that on episode 166 of the BidClub podcast, chip designer Bubble boi said high-bandwidth flash is technically attractive, but it still lacks a decisive use case in data centers.

He said the main customers he has heard about are Chinese clients that have difficulty obtaining or producing high-end HBM.

Bubble boi also said HBF and high-end AI flash both show latency of about 5 microseconds. Their bandwidth is lower than HBM, and while cost per bit is lower, total cost could end up being comparable.

In his view, the clearest customer base consists of entities that cannot access HBM. He said that matches what he heard about demand in China from two to three people, as those buyers either cannot fully manufacture accelerators or are willing to accept products that are not at the leading edge.
