Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has launched IPO Express, a product that lets eligible retail users subscribe to tokenized representations of public offerings directly through their crypto exchange account. The first offering is SpaceX, with tokenized shares becoming tradable on Bybit Spot after allocation.

Powered by xStocks, a tokenization framework developed by Payward Services, IPO Express combines tokenized equity infrastructure with crypto exchange settlement. Users can handle IPO subscriptions, trading, and settlement within a unified digital-asset environment.

Crypto Exchanges Enter Primary Capital Markets

For decades, access to high-profile IPO allocations was largely reserved for institutional investors, private banks, and wealthy clients. Retail investors often gained exposure only after shares began trading publicly, frequently after major price moves. Bybit's IPO Express aims to change that by allowing global users to subscribe to tokenized IPO allocations through crypto-native infrastructure.

Emily Bao, Head of Spot at Bybit, described the launch as part of the company's broader expansion beyond crypto trading. She noted that for decades, the most exciting moments in capital markets were reserved for institutions and well-connected investors—now Bybit customers can invest in US-listed IPOs alongside their crypto assets on equal footing.

The launch signals that crypto exchanges increasingly position themselves as alternative financial infrastructure capable of replicating and competing with traditional capital markets. Tokenization is expanding beyond secondary-market trading into primary issuance and capital formation.

SpaceX Reflects Growing Demand for Private Market Access

Choosing SpaceX as the inaugural IPO product is strategically significant. Demand for exposure to high-profile private companies has surged as firms stay private longer, concentrating value creation inside inaccessible markets. SpaceX has become one of the world's most sought-after private-market investments, fueled by its commercial launch dominance, Starlink satellite infrastructure, government contracts, and defense relevance. The company has reportedly reached private valuations exceeding $300 billion in secondary-market transactions.

Bybit's timeline allows eligible users to register interest, subscribe within the IPO price range, receive pro-rata allocations, and trade tokenized shares on Bybit Spot. The structure resembles a hybrid of traditional IPO allocation systems and crypto exchange token launches.

The tokenized shares are not direct native equities on blockchain; they are tokenized exposures within xStocks' regulated framework. xStocks says its infrastructure provides extended trading hours, crypto-native settlement, cross-chain interoperability, DeFi composability, and global accessibility. Composability could eventually allow tokenized equities to interact with DeFi lending, collateral markets, onchain derivatives, and automated treasury products.

Tokenized Equities Could Reshape Global Retail Investing

The significance extends beyond SpaceX. Tokenized equities represent a key convergence point between crypto infrastructure and traditional finance. Blockchain-based settlement can reduce cross-border friction, custody complexity, market-hour limitations, settlement delays, and minimum investment thresholds. Retail access is the largest commercial opportunity—traditional IPO markets remain geographically fragmented and relationship-driven.

The challenge is regulation. Tokenized equities sit directly inside securities-law frameworks globally, creating far more regulatory complexity than crypto-native assets. Exchanges increasingly emphasize licensing and compliance. Bybit's IPO Express reflects a competitive race across crypto infrastructure as exchanges vie through tokenized equities, RWAs, stablecoins, payments, prediction markets, and 24/7 trading.

Over the long term, traditional distinctions between brokerages, exchanges, banks, and crypto platforms may disappear. If tokenized IPO access scales successfully, crypto infrastructure could become one of the most important retail distribution channels for future capital markets.
