ChainCatcher, citing Dongcha, reported that Shi Yang, the former head of ByteDance’s AI coding tool TRAE, had left the company before the National Day holiday. The report said Shi plans to start a business with Fu Yue, ByteDance’s former head of AI data and security, with a focus on AI office products. The project has reportedly completed its first round of financing at a valuation of about $200 million, though the company name, financing size, and investors have not been disclosed.
Shi Yang’s LinkedIn profile shows his tenure at ByteDance ended in September, and his new role is listed as a startup project whose identity has not yet been made public. He joined ByteDance in 2024 and previously led Doubao MarsCode and TRAE. Before that, he founded enterprise identity management company Yufu Technology, which was later acquired by Tencent. Fu Yue previously oversaw ByteDance’s AI training data business and was reported to have left in August. In the same month, TRAE and the Coze team were folded into the Doubao system, with related product teams beginning to report to Doubao head Zhao Qi. On Oct. 9, TRAE said it would merge TraeWork and TraeCode into a single product.
