BlockBeats reported that Shi Yang, the former head of ByteDance-backed AI coding tool TRAE, left the company before China’s National Day holiday. According to the report, Shi is preparing to start a new company with Fu Yue, also known as Yuyi, ByteDance’s former head of AI data and security. The venture is said to be focused on AI office tools.
The project has reportedly completed its first financing round and is valued at about $200 million. The company name, the amount raised, and the investors have not been disclosed. Shi’s LinkedIn profile shows that his tenure at ByteDance ended in September, and lists his new role as a stealth startup. He joined ByteDance in 2024 and previously led Doubao MarsCode and TRAE.
The report also noted that Fu had overseen ByteDance’s AI training data business and was reported to have left in August. The departures come as ByteDance reshapes its AI office business. In August, TRAE and the Coze team were folded into the Doubao system, with the related product teams reporting to Doubao head Zhao Qi. On Oct. 9, TRAE said it would merge TraeWork and TraeCode into a single product.
