The cryptocurrency ETF landscape has reached another milestone as the spot Litecoin (LTC) exchange-traded fund managed by Canary Capital has been officially added to the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) website. While the listing streamlines the fund's potential trading and settlement processes, it remains separate from the final regulatory approval required by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

What the DTCC Listing Means

The DTCC serves as the central clearinghouse for U.S. securities markets. Inclusion on its public list is a routine yet necessary step for any ETF issuer to prepare for eventual trading. However, industry observers stress that the DTCC listing does not equate to SEC approval. Canary Capital still awaits the SEC's verdict on its S-1 registration statement and the accompanying 19b-4 rule filing.

Nevertheless, the market mood has improved significantly amid the Trump administration's pro-crypto stance and ongoing SEC leadership changes. According to Polymarket, traders now assign an 85% probability that the SEC will approve Canary's spot LTC ETF—a figure that outpaces similar bets on XRP and Solana ETFs.

LTC's Commodity Status Gives It an Edge

Analysts point to Litecoin's classification as a commodity rather than a security as a key advantage. Unlike XRP or SOL, LTC has not been subject to SEC enforcement actions or securities classification disputes. This distinction makes it a more straightforward candidate for an ETF product in the eyes of regulators. Polymarket's prediction market for the first crypto ETF to launch in 2025 has consistently shown LTC leading the pack.

If Canary Capital receives the green light, the ripple effects could be substantial. Coinshares and Grayscale—both of which have pending LTC ETF applications—would likely see their own proposals approved as well. The market has already responded positively: LTC surged 28.7% against the U.S. dollar over the past two weeks, and recorded an additional 6% gain on Friday alone, trading at $135.71 per coin at press time.

SEC Decision and Market Outlook

Despite the encouraging signals, the SEC's final decision remains uncertain. The regulator has historically taken a cautious approach to crypto ETFs, especially those tied to spot assets. However, the Trump administration has signaled strong support for cryptocurrency innovation, and the incoming SEC chair is expected to adopt a more accommodative stance. Many investors believe that the approval process could accelerate under the new regime.

Canary Capital has not disclosed a specific timeline for listing. If approved, the LTC ETF would become the third single-asset spot crypto ETF in the U.S. after Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, potentially opening the door for broader institutional adoption of digital assets.
