TapTools, a widely used analytics platform in the Cardano ecosystem, announced it will begin shutting down operations within the next two weeks after losing its fifth senior executive this year, leaving the company without critical technical leadership. The company posted the statement on X on Tuesday, saying it can no longer sustainably maintain its services.
Founded in 2022, TapTools became one of Cardano's most popular analytics tools, offering token price tracking, DeFi analytics, and project discovery features. Both co-founders, the COO, and the CTO had already departed earlier this year, according to the company. A backend developer stepped into the CTO role to adjust the product strategy, but that executive also left, taking irreplaceable technical expertise. TapTools cited both staffing challenges and financial pressures from maintaining large-scale infrastructure. "Infrastructure costs are real. Development costs are real. Support costs are real. Operating a platform that serves the ecosystem at scale is expensive," the firm said. Despite the wind-down, TapTools remains open to acquisition offers or outside funding.
Hoskinson Acknowledges Unimplemented Support Plan
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson addressed TapTools' situation in a video shared on X, stating he had proposed an index plan but "it did not get executed." He argued the governance community had opportunities to support ecosystem projects but chose not to pursue them.
Governance Disputes Halt Summit, Treasury Proposals Fail
The TapTools shutdown comes days after Cardano-based NFT marketplace JPG.Store permanently ceased operations on May 23. Recent governance disagreements also created funding uncertainty. The Cardano Foundation canceled Cardano Summit 2026 after a treasury proposal seeking 7.8 million ADA failed to secure the required two-thirds approval under the Voltaire framework (65.21% support). A separate 32.9 million ADA proposal for Input Output Global's R&D budget faced over 80% opposition from DReps.
Network Activity Weakens, ADA Under Pressure
Total value locked on Cardano has fallen to roughly $126 million as liquidity shifts to competing blockchains. ADA has dropped to around $0.23, down about 77% from its 2026 high near $1.00, after breaking below long-standing support at $0.247, as reported by Crypto.news on June 2.
