Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano and co-founder of Ethereum, has made a bold prediction for Bitcoin (BTC), forecasting the leading cryptocurrency could surge to $250,000–$500,000 per coin within the next 12 to 24 months. During a recent livestream, Hoskinson shared his vision of Bitcoin becoming the internet’s equivalent of gold, citing growing institutional interest and government strategic reserve discussions.

Bitcoin as the Digital Gold for the Internet

“As good as Ethereum can be, Solana can be, and Cardano can be, let’s be intellectually honest about this — governments are talking about a strategic reserve for Bitcoin and Bitcoin alone,” Hoskinson told viewers. He emphasized that this political shift, combined with Bitcoin’s newly developed decentralized finance (DeFi) layer, positions the asset as a unique store of value. “Simply put, Bitcoin is the store of value for the Internet,” he stated.

Hoskinson compared Bitcoin to gold, which has served as a store of value for over 5,000 years. He believes Bitcoin’s market cap will eventually approach that of gold, currently around $15 trillion. With Bitcoin’s valuation at roughly $2 trillion, a move toward even a fraction of gold’s market cap would justify six-figure prices.

Investment Inflows and Ecosystem Maturity

The Cardano creator attributes the potential rally to “investment inflows and the great interest that has been achieved.” He argued that these forces will translate into an ecosystem whose value starts approaching gold’s. Moreover, the emergence of Bitcoin DeFi projects — such as those building on Bitcoin’s layer-2 solutions — further strengthens the narrative. Hoskinson revealed that his team is excited about certain Bitcoin-focused DeFi projects, as they enable applications to operate seamlessly between Bitcoin and Cardano modes.

A Vision of Coexistence

Despite leading Cardano’s development, Hoskinson remains a devoted Bitcoin advocate. He views Cardano as a “spiritual successor” to Bitcoin, built to remain relevant as the crypto ecosystem evolves. “My mission is to ensure Cardano stays relevant in this evolving narrative,” he explained. His dual commitment highlights a broader trend of coexistence among blockchains, rather than rivalry.

Hoskinson’s insights paint a compelling picture of Bitcoin’s evolving role in the global financial ecosystem. While bold price predictions are speculative, his reasoning — grounded in government adoption, DeFi expansion, and gold-like store-of-value properties — provides a framework for understanding Bitcoin’s potential trajectory. As the crypto market matures, the convergence of traditional finance and digital assets may indeed redefine how value is stored and transferred globally.

It remains to be seen whether Bitcoin will reach $500,000 in 24 months, but Hoskinson’s confidence reflects a growing belief among industry leaders that Bitcoin’s best days are ahead.
