Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, walked onto the stage at Consensus Hong Kong 2026 wearing an actual McDonald's uniform — no photoshop, the real thing. The move directly embraced the crypto community's classic bear market meme: “Go back to flipping burgers.” But beneath the self-deprecating stunt, Hoskinson delivered two significant announcements: the cross-chain protocol LayerZero will be deployed on Cardano, and the privacy blockchain Midnight is set to launch in late March.
Earlier this year, Hoskinson admitted to an unrealized loss of over $3 billion, saying he “could have easily cashed out” but chose to stay. ADA currently trades around $0.258, down more than 92% from its all-time high of $3.09 in 2021. The reaction to his uniform stunt was mixed. CoinDesk’s official account shared the photo with the caption: “When you show up for your first day of work and they give you the uniform.”
LayerZero Confirmed for Cardano, Unlocking 80+ Chain Liquidity
LayerZero is one of the most widely used omnichain communication protocols, supporting cross-chain messaging and asset transfers across over 80 blockchains. The integration means Cardano’s ecosystem will gain direct access to liquidity from Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, and others, significantly boosting its DeFi interoperability. Hoskinson noted that while market sentiment is at a “historic low,” he sees it as a “micro-level downturn” with a still-bullish macro trend.
Privacy Chain Midnight to Launch in Late March, Google and Telegram Join
Midnight, Cardano’s partner chain, uses zero-knowledge proofs for selective disclosure — users can hide transaction data by default and reveal it only when needed to specific parties. Hoskinson introduced a tiered access mechanism: public, audit, and full access levels, each with different permissions. He confirmed that “Google is one of the partners helping run the network, and Telegram is too.”
Additionally, Midnight unveiled the City Simulation interactive test platform, which uses AI-driven agents to simulate unpredictable transaction flows and stress-test the network’s zero-knowledge proof generation. The platform is expected to open to the public on February 26.
