The cryptocurrency market continued its bullish momentum on April 14, with the total market capitalization increasing by 2.25% in a single day as Bitcoin surged past $31,000. Among the standout gainers were Cardano (ADA) and XRP, both reaching significant technical milestones.

Cardano (ADA) Breaches Key Resistance, Hits 7-Month High

ADA/USD raced to an intraday peak of $0.4441 during Friday's session, marking its strongest level since September 27, 2022. The token had closed at $0.4115 the previous day, extending its winning streak to eight consecutive sessions.

The breakout came after ADA successfully cleared the critical resistance level of $0.4230, which had acted as a ceiling for weeks. In addition, the 14-day relative strength index (RSI) surged past its own ceiling at 65.00, currently reading 71.06. This places the token in overbought territory, but the rally may continue if bulls can push past the next resistance at 72.00. Failure to do so could lead to a pullback, erasing some of the recent gains.

Market analysts attribute Cardano's strength to broader risk-on sentiment and ongoing development within its ecosystem, including updates to the Vasil hard fork and smart contract capabilities. However, with the RSI approaching overbought levels, traders are advised to watch for potential profit-taking.

XRP Extends Recovery, Reaches Two-Week High

XRP continued its upward trajectory, hitting a high of $0.5438 on Friday, its highest level since March 29. This came after the token found support at $0.5092 on Thursday, representing a gain of roughly 6.8%. At the time of writing, XRP had eased to $0.5274.

From a technical perspective, the rally was driven by the 14-day RSI bouncing off support at 57.00. The indicator now stands at 62.97, just below the resistance level of 63.00. A decisive break above 63 could open the door for a retest of the $0.55 area and potentially the eleven-month high of $0.5848 reached in late March.

XRP's gains are partly fueled by optimism surrounding the ongoing Ripple-SEC lawsuit, as a favorable ruling could remove a major overhang on the token. Additionally, the overall crypto market uptrend has provided a tailwind for altcoins. However, any negative developments in the legal case could quickly reverse the rally.

Market Outlook and Risk Considerations

The total crypto market cap has recovered above $1.2 trillion, with Bitcoin's strength providing a solid foundation for altcoin rallies. Nonetheless, both ADA and XRP are approaching short-term overbought conditions. Traders should monitor open interest and funding rates for signs of excessive leverage. Key resistance levels remain in focus, and prudent risk management is advised.
