Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has introduced an experimental wallet recovery solution that leverages zero-knowledge proofs to let users regain access to lost wallets without ever sharing their 24-word recovery phrase. In a post on X, Hoskinson outlined a model where users submit a cryptographic proof that they know the seed phrase. Once verified, ADA and Cardano native tokens held in a predefined recovery pool are released. The system works without any intermediary—smart contracts handle the entire process, making the blockchain itself the trusted custodian.
How zero-knowledge proofs enable recovery
Zero-knowledge proofs are a cryptographic tool that verifies possession of specific information without revealing that information. Hoskinson stressed that this is not an attempt to create a universal wallet standard, but rather to tackle the "white hat" challenge of secure asset recovery. The concept is still in testing, and Hoskinson said he plans to collaborate with Quantumplation, Sebastien Guillemot, and the Midnight team—a privacy-focused sidechain in the Cardano ecosystem. He also noted that AI agents could eventually help manage community updates, coordinate ecosystem activities, and support Midnight's ongoing development.
Development continues despite market headwinds
The wallet recovery initiative is the latest in a series of ongoing development efforts. Hoskinson also hinted at plans for a globally distributed Cardano Summit, with dedicated spaces for dApps and ecosystem projects. Input Output, Cardano's core development company, continues to steer the network's technical roadmap. On-chain data from Santiment shows the daily number of active addresses on Cardano has climbed to around 29,025, a level not seen in over two years. Cardano now accounts for about 0.33% of all crypto-related social media discussions, indicating renewed community interest. Santiment cautioned that while heightened network activity and social attention sometimes coincide with limited price rebounds during fearful market periods, this uptick alone does not guarantee a sustained rally.
