Web3 security firm CertiK has released its "Wrench Attack Report for the First Half of 2026," saying 52 publicly verified wrench attack cases were recorded worldwide during the first six months of 2026, up 33.3% year over year. The firm said associated losses reached about $124 million, roughly 11.8 times the level seen a year earlier. The report said attackers are shifting away from exploiting technical vulnerabilities and toward targeting asset holders and their real-world relationship networks. Home invasion cases rose from one in the first half of 2025 to 20 in the same period of 2026, accounting for 41% of all incidents. Europe was identified as the main hotspot, with France alone recording 33 cases, or 63.5% of the global total. CertiK said real-world threats are becoming a major challenge for digital asset security and that companies and high-net-worth individuals need broader protection systems. The firm added that it has launched operational security services and is working more closely with international law enforcement bodies including Interpol and Europol.

Web3 security firm CertiK has released its "Wrench Attack Report for the First Half of 2026," saying 52 publicly verified wrench attack incidents were recorded globally in H1 2026, a 33.3% increase from a year earlier. Related losses reached about $124 million, or roughly 11.8 times the level from the same period last year.

According to the report, attackers are moving away from exploiting technical vulnerabilities and are increasingly targeting asset holders and their real-world relationship networks. Home invasion robberies rose from 1 case in the first half of 2025 to 20 in H1 2026, accounting for 41% of all incidents during the period.

Regionally, Europe was the main hotspot. France recorded 33 cases, equal to 63.5% of the global total.

CertiK said real-world risk has become a major challenge in digital asset security, and that companies and high-value individuals need to build more comprehensive protection systems. The company said it has launched operational security services to help identify exposure risks tied to identity, family, home addresses, and travel patterns. It also said CertiK Security Workspace links off-chain intelligence, on-chain transactions, and AML risk signals to support institutions tracking and analyzing cybercrime activity.

CertiK added that it is strengthening cooperation with international law enforcement agencies including Interpol and Europol, providing technical support for cross-border attack investigations and security policy research.
