ChangXin Technology said on August 29 that its self-developed LPDDR6, the latest generation of low-power memory, has entered mass production and will first be used in Xiaomi’s 18 Fold flagship foldable phone. The company described the launch as the first commercial deployment of an LPDDR6 product globally. According to ChangXin’s half-year report, the LPDDR6 chip delivers broad performance gains over the previous LPDDR5X generation. The company said the product uses architectural changes and data-transfer optimization, reaching a peak speed of 12,800 Mbps and a maximum chip capacity of 16 GB. LPDDR6 is the newest international LPDDR standard. JEDEC first released the LPDDR6 specification in July 2025. Market chatter in March had already indicated that ChangXin’s LPDDR6 products were being sent for testing. The company said it moved from standards alignment to sample delivery, validation, mass production, and commercialization, culminating in what it called a global first launch. The report also said LPDDR6 is seen as a key building block for on-device AI computing, with use cases spanning smartphones and PCs, and extending to smart cockpits and AI data centers.

ChangXin Technology said on August 29 that its self-developed LPDDR6, the latest generation of low-power memory, has entered mass production, with the first batch set to ship in Xiaomi’s 18 Fold flagship foldable smartphone.

The company said this marks the first commercial rollout of an LPDDR6 product anywhere in the world. ChangXin also said the launch breaks a long-standing pattern in which overseas vendors were first to market in high-end memory standards.

Performance details

In its half-year report, ChangXin said its LPDDR6 posts across-the-board gains over the previous LPDDR5X generation. The company attributed that to architectural innovation and data-transfer optimization, saying the chip reaches a peak speed of 12,800 Mbps and supports capacities of up to 16 GB.

From standard alignment to commercialization

LPDDR6 is the newest international LPDDR product generation. JEDEC first published the LPDDR6 standard in July 2025. In March this year, industry reports had already circulated saying ChangXin’s LPDDR6 products had been sent for testing. ChangXin said it completed the full process from aligning with the standard to sample submission, validation, mass production, and commercial launch, ending with what it described as the world’s first LPDDR6 debut.

AI-related use cases

As demand tied to AI expands, LPDDR6 is viewed as a key support for unlocking on-device AI computing. The reported use cases include smartphones and PCs, while also extending to smart cockpits and AI data centers. The report added that this provides a foundation for domestic smartphone brands and other device makers seeking to capture AI-related opportunities.
