Cardano (ADA) jumped over 8% in the last 24 hours and 25% over the past week following detailed 2022 plans from founder Charles Hoskinson and development team IOHK. In a 30-minute video on December 24, Hoskinson outlined key goals for the next year.

Charles Hoskinson's 2022 Vision: Open-Source Structure and Microfinance

“My goal for the second half of 2022 is to figure out how to put all the pieces together to get an end-to-end microfinance transaction on Cardano,” Hoskinson said. He revealed that a formal open-source project structure will be formed, similar to Hyperledger for Linux. Hoskinson noted nearly 15 companies are already building on Cardano worldwide, but the goal is to scale that to hundreds and eventually thousands. “We need institutions like universities and nation-states to actively cooperate and have a stake in the success of this project,” he stressed.

IOHK Introduces ‘Realfi’ Concept: Digital Identity for the Unbanked

IOHK’s blog post highlighted ‘Realfi’ (real finance), noting that around a billion people lack legal identity. Cardano can provide them with a decentralized digital identity to access financial services. “Realfi creates value and opportunity for real people who really need these things,” the post stated. The team also emphasized Cardano’s green credentials, using the Ouroboros proof-of-stake protocol which consumes far less energy than Bitcoin’s proof-of-work. This earned it the nickname “greenest coin” after Elon Musk criticized Bitcoin’s energy use.

Market Performance and Historical Comparison

At press time, ADA traded in a 24-hour range of $1.43 to $1.59. Year-to-date, ADA is up 887% but remains 49.2% below its all-time high of $3.09 on September 2, 2021. Hoskinson’s roadmap and IOHK’s green narrative boosted sentiment, fueling ADA’s year-end rally.

Analysts believe Cardano’s ability to deliver microfinance applications and attract institutional partners in 2022 will be crucial for its value. The project is transitioning from academic research to real-world adoption, with the ‘Realfi’ concept and green label potentially serving as bridges to traditional finance.
