OpenAI has added credit score tracking to ChatGPT Finances, allowing U.S. Plus and Pro users to connect directly to an Experian credit report and view a VantageScore 3.0 without first linking a bank account.
The feature is rolling out across web, iOS, and Android. After connecting, ChatGPT can review reported accounts, balances, credit limits, credit utilization, payment history, and inquiry records, and explain which factors are affecting a user’s credit score.
Monthly updates and change alerts
Credit reports and scores are updated monthly. ChatGPT can also alert users when there is a new inquiry, a new account, or an address change.
According to the update, checking a score through this feature is treated as a soft inquiry, meaning it does not reduce the user’s credit score. ChatGPT can also analyze the credit report together with account data already connected to Finances through Plaid.
Combines credit data with existing finance tools
That combined view can show which credit card is using the most available credit, which card may need to be paid first, and what users should watch before applying for a rental, auto loan, or mortgage.
Before this addition, Finances could already read spending, bills, investments, and liabilities. The latest update adds personal credit history to that set of tools.
Displayed score may differ from lender decisions
OpenAI said the score shown in ChatGPT is a VantageScore 3.0 calculated from an Experian report. It may not match the credit score actually used by a bank or mortgage lender during underwriting.
The company also said that after a user disconnects Experian, the underlying credit report data will be deleted within 30 days. Information that has already entered chat history or Financial Memories, however, will not disappear automatically.
