Placeholder co-founder Chris Burniske said long-term investors should stop obsessing over perfect entries and exits and instead build token positions through a planned accumulation strategy. In his view, long-term investing should not be confused with short-term trading. Burniske suggested using a previously successful holding as a benchmark and then sizing target positions by comparing token supply across networks. He gave examples using ETH, SOL and TIA: with Ethereum’s total supply at about 120 million, a past holding of 10 ETH would translate to roughly 53 SOL based on Solana’s supply of about 636 million, or about 97 TIA based on Celestia’s supply of about 1.16 billion. To reach a TIA network share 10 times larger than the original ETH share, an investor would need about 970 TIA. For ZEC, he said investors could use their ideal BTC holding as a reference because ZEC’s supply is similar to Bitcoin’s. On market conditions, Burniske said many crypto assets are down more than 20% to 40% from their highs, while BTC is down less than 10%. He said that setup looks more like an opportunity in an early bull market than a warning sign of a bull trap, while still advising investors to keep cash on hand and deploy it in tranches if prices fall further.

Placeholder co-founder Chris Burniske said on Oct. 19 that long-term investors should not keep getting stuck on entry and exit timing, and should instead accumulate tokens on a planned basis rather than mixing long-term investing with short-term trading.

Using network share to set position targets

Burniske said investors can use their most successful investment as a reference point and calculate target holdings based on each network’s total token supply.

He used ETH as an example. With Ethereum’s total supply at about 120 million, a past holding of 10 ETH would equal roughly 53 SOL when adjusted for Solana’s total supply of about 636 million, and about 97 TIA when adjusted for Celestia’s total supply of about 1.16 billion.

If an investor wants a TIA network share that is 10 times the share represented by that earlier ETH position, the target would be about 970 TIA. For ZEC, Burniske said investors can use their ideal BTC holding as a benchmark because ZEC’s supply is close to Bitcoin’s.

He sees the current setup as closer to an early bull market opportunity

On the broader market, Burniske said many crypto assets have fallen more than 20% to 40% from their highs, while BTC is down less than 10%.

He said BTC’s earlier relative resilience has already pushed lower-risk-appetite assets through a substantial adjustment, making the current market look more like an opportunity in the early stage of a bull market than a warning sign of a bull trap.

Keep cash available and buy in tranches

At the same time, Burniske said investors still need to account for the possibility of further downside. He suggested deploying remaining cash in batches and sizing each tranche according to the probability that a given price level could mark a local bottom.

He added that it is acceptable if some preset price levels are never reached and some cash remains unused. During weak market periods or pullbacks in an early bull phase, he said, steadily accumulating target assets with a high-conviction framework matters more than repeatedly trying to call market direction.
