According to ChainCatcher, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong recently addressed the relationship between quantum computing and Bitcoin during an interview. He said the threat quantum computing poses to Bitcoin has been greatly overstated. His comments focused on a technical security topic that is often discussed in connection with cryptocurrency, while stressing that the issue is not limited to Bitcoin alone.
Armstrong said: “This is not a problem unique to cryptocurrency. This is something the whole world needs to deal with. We are working directly with core developers on the quantum issue.” The statement framed quantum computing as a broader global technology challenge rather than a risk that belongs only to the crypto industry or to a single digital asset.
Based on the remarks, Coinbase is not describing quantum computing as a special threat aimed only at Bitcoin. Armstrong also stated that Coinbase is working directly with core developers to address the matter. ChainCatcher categorized the item as market analysis, reflecting continued discussion within the industry around long-term technical security questions for crypto assets.
