On August 21, leading cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase announced that World Liberty Financial's stablecoin USD1 had been added to the platform's roadmap, signaling a potential listing. The announcement included the token's contract address, with Coinbase stating: “The launch of trading for these assets is contingent on market-making support and sufficient technical infrastructure. We will announce the launch of trading separately once these conditions have been met.”
Following the roadmap update, Eric Trump, son of U.S. President Donald Trump, reposted Coinbase's message on X, writing: “USD1 is officially on Coinbase. More [World Liberty Financial] news to come very soon.” His endorsement gave the announcement an extra boost of attention, given the Trump family's backing of the DeFi project.
USD1 Stablecoin Details
USD1 is a fiat-backed stablecoin issued by World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance (DeFi) project supported by the Trump family. According to Defillama data, USD1 currently holds a market capitalization of approximately $2.422 billion, making it the sixth-largest stablecoin globally. The token has seen a net inflow of $212 million over the past month, indicating growing demand.
Later on Thursday, Coinbase officially confirmed the listing on X: “Coinbase will add support for World Liberty Financial USD (USD1) on the Ethereum network (ERC-20 token). Do not send this asset over other networks or your funds may be lost. Transfers for this asset are available on Coinbase and Coinbase Exchange in regions where trading is supported.” With this addition, Coinbase now supports seven stablecoins: USDC, USDT, USDP, DAI, PYUSD, EURC, and USD1.
Market Implications
The listing of USD1 on a major exchange like Coinbase is seen as a significant milestone for World Liberty Financial, bridging the DeFi project with mainstream crypto infrastructure. Eric Trump's vocal support adds a layer of political and celebrity influence, potentially attracting a wider user base. Analysts suggest that the move could intensify competition in the stablecoin market, as USD1 gains liquidity and visibility.
Coinbase emphasized that USD1 is only supported on the Ethereum network (ERC-20) and users should avoid sending the token via other networks to prevent loss of funds. The exchange will announce trading launch separately once market-making and technical conditions are met.
