Crypto exchange Coinbase has invested in ProShares' GENIUS Money Market ETF (IQMM) to advance stablecoin cash management practices. As a leading global exchange, this move underscores Coinbase's strategy to deeply integrate traditional financial instruments with the digital asset ecosystem, while offering a compliant pathway for stablecoin issuers navigating tightening regulations.
IQMM is a money market fund specifically built to serve as a stablecoin reserve asset. Its holdings are strictly limited to U.S. Treasury securities and cash equivalents with maturities of 93 days or less. This structure guarantees exceptionally high safety and liquidity, directly aligning with the GENIUS Act's requirements for stablecoin collateral. The use of short-term Treasuries—among the most liquid instruments—enables immediate redemptions, which is precisely why the ETF qualifies as an eligible reserve tool under the Act.
Under the GENIUS Act framework, stablecoin issuers must back tokens 1:1 with high-quality, liquid assets, as mandated by Section 4. ProShares' ETF is one of the first reserve-grade products designed in accordance with this legislation, giving issuers a ready-made, tradable compliance vehicle. ProShares, renowned as a global ETF provider, partnering with Coinbase not only validates the fund's management but also sends a clear signal that regulated stablecoin infrastructure is gaining traction among mainstream financial institutions.
