According to MarsBit’s market analysis item, Coinbase is redefining the group of companies it competes against. The company’s strategic direction is no longer framed only around rivalry with other crypto exchanges on trading depth, token coverage or fee structures. By adding access to U.S. stocks, options, derivatives, prediction markets and unlisted assets, Coinbase is pushing its platform from a crypto exchange model toward an all-asset brokerage model.
From a Trading Venue to a Super Financial Account
On the product side, Coinbase has introduced AI investment advisory services, a global liquidity pool and a financial card. These products are being positioned around a “super financial account” that covers trading, payments and consumption. In this structure, transaction services, payment tools and everyday spending functions are brought into one account-based system, expanding Coinbase’s role beyond a single-purpose crypto trading platform.
As Coinbase broadens both asset coverage and account functions, its competitive focus shifts toward traditional brokerage platforms such as Robinhood. The company is also exploring next-generation financial infrastructure driven by AI Agents. In this framing, Coinbase’s platform positioning is being reshaped around brokerage services, payments, spending and AI-enabled financial services rather than crypto trading alone.
