Coinbase has outlined the next step in its expansion plan: a single financial platform that combines trading, lending, payments, derivatives, and AI-powered tools. In a company blog post, Coinbase executive Max Branzburg said the exchange is building a unified account that would let users access multiple financial products in one place, covering crypto assets, stocks, commodities, derivatives, payments, and lending on a 24/7 basis.
The market reacted quickly, at least at first. Coinbase shares climbed as much as 2.58% to $164.32 in Friday trading before giving back those gains later in the session as investor attention shifted toward SpaceX’s closely watched public market debut.
June 16 presentation will outline the next phase
Coinbase said it will reveal the next phase of its “Everything Exchange” strategy on June 16. The company is pitching the model as something broader than a crypto trading venue, with products spanning AI trading agents, prediction markets, stocks, lending, and DeFi services.
In its statement, Coinbase argued that traditional finance still runs on outdated infrastructure that slows settlement and limits market access. Blockchain-based systems, the company said, can keep markets open continuously while speeding up settlement and expanding access across borders.
Coinbase added that users already have access through its platform to millions of crypto assets, nearly 10,000 stocks and ETFs, commodity-backed perpetual futures, and prediction markets. That product mix points to a broader shift in the company’s positioning, from a crypto exchange toward a platform that bundles multiple asset classes into one account structure.
Lending and DeFi products are already live
Recent launches show that this strategy is not just a presentation theme. Earlier this month, Coinbase introduced a High Yield USDC vault in its app, allowing users to lend stablecoins through DeFi infrastructure powered by Morpho. Allocations are managed by Steakhouse Financial, and the product gives users exposure to a range of collateral assets without moving funds off the exchange.
That setup brings an on-chain yield product inside a centralized exchange environment. It also keeps trading balances, lending activity, and user funds closer to the same account layer, which fits the broader unified-platform approach Coinbase is describing.
Prediction markets and AI agents are key growth areas
Coinbase has also been expanding in event-based trading. A Bernstein research report said the exchange’s prediction market business had already surpassed $100 million in annualized revenue in March, only months after launch. The same firm estimated that the 2026 FIFA World Cup could generate between $5 billion and $10 billion in additional prediction market activity, with Coinbase positioned to benefit from participation tied to the tournament’s 104-match schedule.
AI is the other major piece of the plan. Coinbase said its Coinbase Advisor feature offers portfolio analysis, trading insights, and market information. The company has also rolled out Coinbase for Agents, which connects large language models such as ChatGPT and Claude directly to Coinbase accounts. Authorized AI agents can execute crypto trades, rebalance portfolios, monitor markets, manage positions, and handle payment-related tasks for users.
Coinbase said support for stocks and prediction markets will be added to that agent framework later. The company plans to share more on June 16.
