Coinbase held its annual System Update livestream on Tuesday, unveiling a broad lineup of new products spanning stocks, derivatives, AI advisory, and consumer finance. The U.S. crypto exchange is clearly pivoting from a pure digital asset platform toward a one-stop financial services hub.
Stock Options and 1:1 Tokenized Stocks
Users can now transfer stock portfolios from other brokers into Coinbase and trade U.S. equities, ETFs, indices, and crypto within a single Coinbase Advanced account. Earlier in the day, Coinbase announced 1:1 tokenized stocks, allowing investors to hold, trade, and redeem securities on-chain while receiving dividend payouts directly.
Stock and crypto options trading will open to all users, bringing hedging and leverage strategies previously reserved for institutions to retail traders. For derivatives, Coinbase launched Pre-IPO perpetual contracts targeting private companies. Contracts tied to SpaceX went live recently, with OpenAI and Anthropic slated for later this year.
The exchange also introduced theme-based basket perpetuals covering AI, defense, and Chinese stocks. On prediction markets, new features include short-term crypto prediction contracts and combination bets that bundle multiple contracts into one position.
AI Advisor Registered with SEC
One of the most anticipated launches was Coinbase Advisor, an AI-powered investment tool. Coinbase says it is among the first such tools to obtain SEC registration as an investment adviser. Initially available only to U.S.-based Coinbase One subscribers, it offers personalized portfolio recommendations, tax-loss harvesting guidance, and market analysis. Coinbase is also building a feature that lets AI agents execute trades autonomously within user-set limits.
Consumer Finance and DeFi Integration: Travel Rewards, USDC Card, Staked SOL Lending
Coinbase launched a travel portal offering 5% Bitcoin rewards on bookings. It also introduced a Coinbase One credit card backed by USDC stablecoin collateral. For advanced users, Coinbase integrated DeFi protocols Jito and Morpho, enabling lending against staked Solana (SOL) to unlock capital efficiency.
