CryptoRank data shows Coinbase Ventures led crypto venture activity in the first half of 2026 with 30 completed investments, ahead of Animoca Brands, a16z, and Tether. Over the past 12 months, Coinbase Ventures also ranked first across the industry with 75 deals, followed by Animoca Brands, YZi Labs, GSR, and a16z. The figures came as overall crypto fundraising continued to weaken. In June, total funding for crypto companies fell to $1.4 billion, down 63% from $3.8 billion in April, while the number of funding rounds dropped from 89 in May to 61. The number of independent investment firms participating in deals also declined, sliding from 452 in October 2025 to 242 in June this year. By sector, DeFi, payments, and AI remained the three areas that attracted the most capital over the past year, recording 216, 131, and 128 funding rounds, respectively. CryptoRank said Coinbase Ventures has been focusing on payment protocols, DeFi, infrastructure, and RWA tokenization projects.

CryptoRank data released on July 13 showed that Coinbase Ventures was the most active crypto venture capital firm in the first half of 2026, completing 30 investments during the period. Animoca Brands, a16z, and Tether followed with 19, 18, and 15 investments, respectively.

Coinbase Ventures also led over the past 12 months

Looking at the past 12 months, Coinbase Ventures completed 75 investments, the highest total in the industry. Animoca Brands, YZi Labs, formerly Binance Labs, GSR, and a16z ranked behind it.

Funding activity kept shrinking

The data also showed that overall crypto fundraising continued to contract as the market remained in a slump. Total funding raised by crypto companies fell to $1.4 billion in June, down 63% from $3.8 billion in April. The number of funding rounds also dropped, from 89 in May to 61.

The number of independent investment firms taking part in deals moved lower as well, falling from 452 in October 2025 to 242 in June this year.

DeFi, payments, and AI drew the most interest

By sector, DeFi, payments, and AI were still the most favored areas for capital over the past year, with 216, 131, and 128 funding rounds, respectively.

Within that backdrop, Coinbase Ventures focused on payment protocols, DeFi, infrastructure, and RWA tokenization projects.
