Cannes, France – July 3, 2025 – The EVM Sovereign Day, organized by Cosmos and Interop Ventures on June 30, brought together more than 18 ecosystem teams for a full day of inspiring presentations, technical deep dives, and cross-ecosystem panels. At the summit, industry leader Ripple (XRPL) announced the mainnet launch of its EVM-compatible sidechain built on the Cosmos SDK, now powering XRP’s native DeFi layer; TAC detailed its upcoming Telegram and TON EVM chain, bringing one billion Telegram users to EVM; and Stride outlined its next-generation DEX powered by IBC Eureka, delivering cross-chain DeFi. Other participants included Starknet, Polygon, Babylon, Pantera, and Anoma/Namada.
Cosmos EVM: A New Paradigm for Sovereignty and Interoperability
Opening the summit, Barry Plunkett and Maghnus Mareneck, Co-CEOs of Interchain Labs, recounted the growth roadmap of the Cosmos ecosystem, highlighting the debut of Cosmos EVM – the only fully integrated Layer 1 EVM stack on the market. Used by Ripple, TAC, Babylon, and other protocols, Cosmos EVM offers developers unmatched flexibility and control down to the chain's core logic. Combined with the recent IBC upgrade that connects Ethereum and will soon extend to L2s and Solana, Cosmos is setting the stage to become the epicenter of financial assets, RWAs, institutions, and multichain applications. Barry Plunkett stated: “From Telegram to XRP, millions will soon access EVM and the multichain world with Cosmos. The EVM Sovereign Day solidified the Internet of Blockchains as a reality today.”
Ripple XRPL Sidechain Mainnet: Unlocking $127B DeFi Potential
In a keynote, Luke Judges, Director of Ripple, and Ferran Torres, CEO and Founder of Peersyst, announced the mainnet launch of the XPL EVM sidechain. Built on the Cosmos SDK, this sidechain marks a major milestone for Ripple, bringing native DeFi capabilities to the over $127 billion XRP ecosystem for the first time. Over 6 million XRP users can now access applications across XRP, EVM, and Cosmos via the native IBC interoperability protocol. This opens the door to a wave of consumer-oriented financial applications on XRPL.
TAC: Bringing EVM DeFi to 1 Billion Telegram Users
Marco Monaco, Co-founder of TAC, presented the upcoming TAC blockchain, an EVM application layer that is an extension of the TON and Telegram ecosystem. Natively supported by this ecosystem, TAC brings EVM-based DeFi applications to over 1 billion Telegram users, allowing them to access apps without leaving Telegram or their wallets. This unlocks a previously impossible application ecosystem for TON and connects it to hundreds of chains and Ethereum via IBC.
Stride DEX: IBC Flywheel Driving Cross-Chain Liquidity
The Stride Labs team highlighted the evolution of the IBC Flywheel, powered by the upcoming Stride DEX. Backed by the Interchain Foundation, the DEX enables multichain swaps and provides a deep liquidity layer that feeds IBC Eureka. Stride exemplifies the vision of connecting everything, abstracting the multichain experience to enable high-throughput, programmable DeFi in an interchain world. Users can route with one click through the Hub to interact with native assets across hundreds of IBC-connected chains, as well as Ethereum, Solana, and Bitcoin.
A United Multichain Future
Held at the Hotel Belle Plage in Cannes on June 30, the EVM Sovereign Day is the first event of the Sovereign Series, a curated set of global gatherings exploring Web3's potential at the intersection of all chains. With Cosmos providing the rails to connect everything, the ecosystem is forging a common, interoperable space where all productive assets are accessible to users seamlessly.
