Cannes, France – July 3, 2025 – The Sovereign EVM Day, organized by Cosmos and Interop Ventures on June 30, brought together over 18 ecosystem teams for a full day of keynote presentations, deep technical dives, and inter-ecosystem panels. Major announcements from Ripple, TAC, and Stride underscored Cosmos’s growing role as the interoperability backbone of the blockchain industry.
Cosmos EVM: Unmatched Flexibility for Developers
Barry Plunkett and Maghnus Mareneck, Co-CEOs of Interchain Labs, opened the summit by detailing Cosmos’s growth roadmap. They highlighted Cosmos EVM – the only fully integrated Layer 1 EVM stack on the market – which is now being used by Ripple, TAC, Babylon, and other protocols. Cosmos EVM gives developers control down to the chain’s core logic, while the recent IBC upgrade connects Ethereum, L2s, and soon Solana to the Cosmos ecosystem. “From Telegram to XRP, millions of people will soon access EVM and the multichain world via Cosmos,” said Plunkett.
Ripple XPL EVM Sidechain Goes Live: Unlocking XRP DeFi
Luke Judges, Director at Ripple, together with Peersyst CEO Ferran Torres, announced the mainnet launch of the XPL EVM sidechain, built on the Cosmos SDK. This marks a major milestone for the $127 billion XRP ecosystem, bringing native DeFi capabilities for the first time. Over six million XRP users can now access applications across XRP, EVM, and Cosmos via the native IBC interoperability protocol, enabling seamless cross-chain asset movement and composability.
TAC: Bringing EVM to Telegram’s Billion Users
Marco Monaco, Co-founder of TAC, presented the upcoming TAC blockchain – an EVM application layer that extends the TON and Telegram ecosystem. TAC will bring EVM-based DeFi applications to over 1 billion Telegram users, allowing them to interact without leaving Telegram or their wallets. The chain connects to hundreds of IBC-enabled chains and Ethereum, unlocking previously impossible use cases for TON.
Stride DEX: Cross-Chain Liquidity Powered by IBC Eureka
The Stride Labs team detailed their upcoming DEX, fueled by IBC Eureka technology. The decentralized exchange will enable one-click routing for multi-chain swaps, providing a deep liquidity layer that aggregates assets from hundreds of IBC-connected chains as well as Ethereum, Solana, and Bitcoin. Stride aims to abstract the multichain experience, allowing users to leverage programmable cross-chain DeFi with high performance.
Connecting Everything: Cosmos as the Hub for Multichain Assets
The Sovereign EVM Day, hosted at the Hotel Belle Plage in Cannes, is the first event of the Sovereign Series – a curated set of global gatherings exploring Web3’s full potential at the intersection of all chains. Participants included Starknet, Polygon, Babylon, Pantera Capital, and Anoma/Namada. With Cosmos EVM and IBC connecting major ecosystems, Cosmos is positioning itself as the epicenter for financial assets, RWAs, institutional applications, and multichain dApps.
