Crypto.com co-founder and CEO Kris Marszalek announced he purchased the AI.com domain last April for $70 million in cryptocurrency, paid entirely in digital assets. Domain broker Larry Fischer of GetYourDomain.com confirmed the deal surpasses all publicly disclosed domain transactions, beating the previous record of nearly $50 million for CarInsurance.com.
Platform Vision: Beyond Chat, Into Action
Marszalek said he bought AI.com in April 2025 and built a team to develop it continuously. The platform is positioned as a consumer-grade autonomous AI agent, distinct from conversational tools like ChatGPT and Claude. Its key selling point: agents not only answer questions but actually perform tasks. Features include a 60-second onboarding without technical knowledge; autonomous task execution such as sending messages, operating across apps, building projects, and even trading stocks or updating dating profiles; a self-evolving capability where agents develop missing functions to handle real-world tasks, sharing improvements across millions of agents in a collective evolution; and a free tier with paid subscription for advanced usage.
Domain History: From Google to OpenAI to Crypto.com
The AI.com domain was first registered in May 1993 and long held by Google. In 2023, OpenAI reportedly bought it from Google for around $11 million, redirecting it to ChatGPT. In 2024, ownership became chaotic—the domain briefly pointed to Elon Musk's xAI, then to a YouTuber's AI video service, and even redirected to DeepSeek's site. In April 2025, Marszalek acquired it for $70 million, a roughly 6.4x increase over OpenAI's purchase price. Notably, he previously bought Crypto.com in 2018 for about $12 million from cryptography professor Matt Blaze, renaming his company from Monaco to Crypto.com—a deal now seen as one of the best domain investments ever.
Super Bowl Ad Debut
AI.com will air its first brand ad on NBC during Super Bowl LX on February 8, making its global debut. This year's Super Bowl has become a battleground for AI exposure, with Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta all running AI-related spots. AI.com is the only entrant with a cryptocurrency background. Is $70 million worth it for a domain? From a brand perspective, "AI.com" may well be the most commercially valuable three-letter address on the internet today.
