The global cryptocurrency market climbed to a total valuation of $3.25 trillion, posting a 1.7% gain over the past 24 hours. Total trading volume reached $92 billion. Prices and activity both moved higher, but sentiment stayed weak, with the Crypto Fear & Greed Index at 26, still in Fear territory.
Bitcoin remained the dominant asset in the market. Its share stood at 57%, while Ethereum accounted for 11.8%. The report said 18,941 cryptocurrencies are currently being tracked, and the strongest ecosystem gainers over the past day were Polkadot and the XRP Ledger ecosystem.
Bitcoin and Ethereum posted steady gains
Bitcoin was listed at $92,982.65, up 2.04% in 24 hours, with $31.43 billion in trading volume and a market capitalization of $1.85 trillion. A separate real-time figure in the same source showed BTC at $93,155.35, up 2.38%, with volume close to $31.3 billion. The figures differ slightly, but both point to continued strength in Bitcoin.
Ethereum traded at $3,198.92, rising 1.57% over the same period. Its 24-hour volume came in at $15.23 billion, and its market cap was reported at $386.11 billion. The broader picture stayed uneven. Capital remained concentrated in large-cap assets, while altcoins showed mixed performance rather than a broad rally.

Stablecoins and DeFi edged higher while sentiment stayed cautious

Sentiment improved only marginally. The Fear & Greed Index moved from 25 yesterday to 26 today. It stood at 24 last week and 23 last month, both in Extreme Fear. That suggests trading activity has picked up with prices, but risk appetite remains limited.
Daily headlines focused on development, reserves, and exchange listings
The source also highlighted several market stories. Bitcoin Core activity in 2025 reportedly saw developer discussions rise by 60%, with more contributors joining and its first public security audit finding no critical issues. Analyst Adam Livingston said Japan’s Metaplanet benefits from a weaker yen through lower debt costs, while Bitcoin’s rally has boosted the value of its 35,102 BTC holdings. On the exchange side, Binance Alpha is set to list Brevis (BREV) on January 6, with eligible users able to claim an airdrop using Alpha points after trading opens. Depinsim (ESIM) was also scheduled to launch the same day. A governance proposal at World Liberty Financial passed with 77.75% support, allowing unlocked treasury funds to be used to encourage adoption of its USD1 stablecoin.
