The crypto market sold off sharply over the past 24 hours, with total market capitalization falling 4.6% to $2.95 trillion. Bitcoin moved below $85,000, Ethereum slipped under $2,900, and sentiment weakened at the same time. The Fear and Greed Index came in at 16, down from 26 a day earlier, placing the market in extreme fear territory.

Bitcoin, Ethereum and major altcoins all moved lower

Market data in the source shows Bitcoin at $84,041.99, down 5.48% over 24 hours, with $65.26 billion in trading volume and a market capitalization of about $1.67 trillion. A separate price snapshot in the same report listed Bitcoin at $83,818.46, down 5.74%. Ethereum was quoted at $2,804.9, off 6.48% in 24 hours, with trading volume of $38.13 billion and market capitalization near $338.54 billion.

Losses extended across other large tokens. XRP traded at $1.79, down 5.36%; Solana stood at $117.50, lower by 5.78%; and BNB changed hands at $861.73, down 4.46%. Total crypto trading volume rose to $173 billion. The source tied that jump to panic selling, heavy liquidations and a broader risk-off move. The weakness was not limited to digital assets, as gold and silver also declined sharply during the session.

Bitcoin dominance held at 57% while a few tokens posted gains

Even with the market under pressure, Bitcoin dominance remained at 57%, while Ethereum accounted for 11.5%. The report said the strongest areas over the past day included IP and the XRP Ledger Ecosystem. Among individual gainers, Canton (CC) traded at $0.1797, up 10.79% with activity of roughly $36.8 million. LayerZero (ZRO) rose to $2.11, gaining 7.08% on about $157.9 million in trading. UNUS SED LEO (LEO) was listed at $9.22, up 0.04%.

On the losing side, Worldcoin (WLD) traded at $0.471, down 15.75%. Chiliz (CHZ) fell to $0.04752, a 14.99% drop. Lighter (LIT) was quoted at $1.69, lower by 12.30%.

Stablecoins and DeFi also weakened as sentiment stayed fragile

The stablecoin segment recorded a 0.5% negative change over 24 hours, with total market capitalization at $310 billion and trading volume at $130.8 billion. DeFi posted a steeper decline of 6%, leaving the sector with a market cap of about $105 billion, trading volume of $6.6 billion, and global dominance of 3.6%.

Sentiment remained under pressure. The Bitcoin Fear and Greed Index fell from 26 yesterday to 16 today, and the source also compared that reading with last week’s 24 and last month’s 21. It attributed the weak mood to macro uncertainty, soft price momentum and cautious trading behavior.

Policy and industry headlines added to a busy trading day

The source also listed several market-moving developments. In the United States, the Justice Department had seized more than $400 million in crypto, real estate and cash after the conviction and sentencing of Larry Harmon, the owner of darknet mixer Helix. Flying Tulip, a DeFi project led by Andre Cronje, raised fresh funding through private and public sales, including 225.5M in institutional backing and 50M from Impossible Finance, and plans to raise another 200M through a CoinList sale this year.

The U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee advanced a crypto market structure bill by a 12–11 vote, though the measure still faces Banking Committee review and uncertain bipartisan backing. The report also said Copper is assessing a possible IPO, while BitGo’s $2 billion debut pointed to investor interest in crypto infrastructure such as custody and settlement. It also mentioned JSOL as a product offering Solana exposure, staking rewards and MEV income through JitoSOL.
