The global crypto market cap climbed to $2.2 trillion on July 3, up 1.8% over 24 hours, while total trading volume reached $84.3 billion. Bitcoin and Ethereum both moved higher. Sentiment, though, remained fragile, with the Fear & Greed Index at 21, still in Extreme Fear territory.
Bitcoin and Ethereum post gains as market share stays concentrated

XDAO leads daily movers while UNI and WLD advance
Altcoins saw sharper moves than the majors. XDAO surged 449.3% to $0.0002592, with trading volume of $111.16 million. Uniswap’s UNI rose 12.54% to $3.20, supported by $314.87 million in volume. Worldcoin (WLD) gained 14.57% to $0.4281, with trading activity at $427.27 million.

Listings, an exploit, and protocol updates shape the day’s news flow
Upbit said it will list Metaplex (MPLX) with BTC and USDT pairs on Solana, and Nexus (NEX) with a USDT pair on Ethereum. Zcash’s Ironwood upgrade has entered the audit stage and is expected to go live around July 21.
Security remained a live issue. Privacy protocol Hinkal suffered an exploit worth about $820,000, and blockchain security firms said the stolen funds were reportedly moved through Tornado Cash and THORChain. Elsewhere, Rialto officially launched its on-chain spot exchange with support for crypto assets, stock tokens, ETFs, commodities, and pre-IPO assets. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins also said the agency is modernizing regulation to support blockchain-based capital markets.
Market conditions improve from July 2, but caution remains elevated
Compared with the July 2 update, total market capitalization increased from $2.14 trillion to $2.2 trillion. The Fear & Greed Index also improved from 19 to 21. The numbers moved up, but positioning still looks defensive. Price gains, new exchange listings, protocol development, and security incidents all landed on the same day, keeping trader attention split between opportunity and risk.
