Sentiment also improved: the Crypto Fear & Greed Index rose to 43 from 34 a day earlier, still cautious but well above last month’s reading of 23.
Bitcoin and Ethereum Add Gains While Market Concentration Stays High
Bitcoin climbed to $81,535.46, gaining 2.45% in 24 hours, with trading volume at $43.6 billion and market capitalization at $1.63 trillion. Ethereum traded at $2,292.47, up 1.17%, with $17.7 billion in volume and a market cap of $276.8 billion. Bitcoin’s market dominance was reported at 58.4%, while Ethereum held 9.89%.
Trending price data showed BTC at $81,519.98, up 2.39%; XRP at $1.49, up 4.44%; and ETH at $2,290.61, up 1.08%. Hyperliquid’s HYPE token was among the strongest performers, trading between $45.27 and $45.37 with a daily gain of more than 16%.
DeFi Market Expands 4% as Stablecoins Hold Flat
Stablecoins were unchanged over the last 24 hours, with a combined market capitalization of $317.4 billion and trading volume of $93 billion. The DeFi market rose 4%, bringing total capitalization to $50 billion and trading volume to $5.2 billion. DeFi dominance was listed at 2.1%. The strongest ecosystem-level gainers included Polkadot and the XRP Ledger ecosystem.
Moves in individual tokens remained uneven. Billions Network (BILL) rose 14.32% to $0.2185, Flare (FLR) added 10.21%, and XDC gained 9.22%. On the losing side, BUILDon (B) dropped by more than 25%, Internet Computer (ICP) fell 6.88%, and PAX Gold (PAXG) slipped 1.46%.
ETF Launches, Regulation, and Institutional Filings Drive Headlines
News flow was heavy across ETFs and policy. Bitwise said its Hyperliquid ETF, BHYP, would begin trading on May 15, giving investors direct HYPE exposure along with a self-managed staking mechanism. 21Shares US also launched the actively managed crypto ETF ETF-TKNS, allowing portfolio managers to adjust digital asset exposure instead of tracking a fixed index.
On the regulatory side, the U.S. Clarity Act crypto bill cleared the Senate Banking Committee and now moves to a full Senate vote. JPMorgan disclosed that it significantly increased its Bitcoin ETF holdings in the first quarter of 2026 and started staking in Bitwise’s Solana staking ETF product. In separate first-quarter 2026 securities disclosures, Donald Trump said he holds investments through trusts established by him and his family in several crypto-related firms, including Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings.
Protocol and Exchange Updates Add to the Day’s Momentum
Aave Labs said it plans to extend its DAO bug bounty program and raise rewards for critical Aave V3 vulnerabilities to as much as $5 million. Aptos announced that Korean won stablecoin KRW1 will support payments, remittances, and real-world asset tokenization on its network. Gemini reported smaller quarterly losses and stronger revenue growth, while Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss spent $100 million on the exchange via Bitcoin.
Compared with the May 14 update, the market cap increased from $2.74 trillion to $2.79 trillion, and the Fear & Greed Index improved from 34 to 43. Price recovery, higher trading activity, ETF launches, and fresh regulatory developments all arrived on the same day, shaping the market narrative for May 15.
