CryptoQuant said altcoin deposits to exchanges have climbed to their highest level since October 2025, a shift the firm said could signal that holders are preparing to sell.
In its latest weekly report released Tuesday, the onchain analytics platform said the seven-day total of altcoin deposit transactions on exchanges it tracks reached 78,000 on Sept. 28. That compares with about 29,800 on Sept. 14, an increase of roughly 160% in two weeks.
「Altcoin exchange inflows have exploded to their highest levels since Bitcoin’s last all-time high,」 CryptoQuant wrote.
The number of addresses depositing altcoins to exchanges also moved sharply higher. Between Sept. 14 and Sept. 28, that count rose from around 17,600 to 51,600, nearly tripling over the period. CryptoQuant said that was also the highest level since October 2025, and described the increase in exchange inflows as broad-based.
The firm added: 「When holders move coins to exchanges, they usually intend to sell.」
Bitcoin pulls back while dominance stays in a familiar range
Bitcoin briefly moved above $87,000 last week for the first time since January, then retreated.
Cointelegraph previously reported that changes in exchange order-book liquidity and long-term holder supply have been cited as possible obstacles to further short-term gains for BTC.
Bitcoin’s share of the total crypto market remained below 60%. According to TradingView data, Bitcoin dominance has stayed between 58% and 60.4% since May 27.
Market share outside the top 10 reaches highest level since February
The pickup in exchange deposits has followed other signs of altcoins outperforming Bitcoin.
Last week, Glassnode’s Altcoin Cycle Signal favored altcoins over Bitcoin. The metric is based on price data from the 250 largest altcoins by market capitalization, excluding stablecoins.
Crypto assets outside the top 10 by market cap accounted for 9% of the total market on Sept. 27, the highest share since February.
