Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) ignited excitement on X after reacting to NYSE's announcement of a new securities market built on cryptocurrency infrastructure. CZ stated that this move signals a bullish development for both crypto and crypto exchanges.
NYSE Dual-Exchange Model: Traditional Meets Crypto-Native
According to the plan, NYSE will operate two exchanges in parallel. The existing exchange will retain its 9:30 AM–4:00 PM EST hours, T+1 settlement, and bank transfers. Meanwhile, the new exchange will embrace crypto-native features: 24/7 trading, instant settlement, and stablecoin-based funding, eliminating banking restrictions. Digital securities will be issued locally on-chain.
This is not simply grafting blockchain onto the current system; it creates a completely new trading space. Quoting the news, CZ remarked: “This signals a bullish development for crypto and crypto exchanges.”
Major Institutions Accelerate Tokenization
Beyond NYSE, other financial giants are pursuing asset tokenization: DTCC is tokenizing stored securities; State Street is tokenizing MMFs and ETFs; Nasdaq is adjusting its rules to accommodate both traditional and tokenized trading.
The result: tokenized stocks will be stored in wallets rather than central depositories like DTCC, enabling instant trading on platforms akin to Binance.
Ecosystem Impact: Stablecoin Demand and Blockchain Networks
Integrating traditional stocks into a blockchain framework will likely drive significant demand for stablecoins. Settlement at scale could generate massive gains for digital assets. Using networks like Ethereum and Solana to tokenize traditional assets will further strengthen the crypto ecosystem.
The timeline for implementation remains undisclosed, but the industry sees this as a concrete step toward merging traditional finance with the crypto world.
