Dabba, a decentralized physical infrastructure network (Depin) project, says it plans to deploy 10,000 new WiFi hotspots, with a focus on improving internet access in underserved parts of India. The expansion comes ahead of the project’s planned token generation event on Solana in July, suggesting Dabba is trying to strengthen its real-world network footprint before its token launch.
Targeting India’s connectivity gap
Dabba described the move as season two of its service rollout. According to the project, the new hotspots are intended for areas with strong data demand but limited connectivity infrastructure, especially rural and semi-urban regions across India. While the country has a large internet user base, about 44% of the population remains offline, highlighting a major digital access gap that Dabba aims to address.
Testnet metrics show early traction
Alongside the rollout announcement, Dabba introduced an explorer tool designed to help users locate existing data hotspots and monitor network performance. The tool currently reflects the state of the Dabba testnet, which has been live for two months. Based on the figures shared by the project, the network has already deployed more than 1,500 hotspots, connected over 15,000 devices, and handled more than 390 TB of data usage. Those numbers indicate that the network has seen measurable real-world activity before a broader expansion.
Infrastructure first, token utility later
Dabba said its native cryptocurrency is intended to support a marketplace connecting data users and infrastructure providers. By prioritizing physical network deployment before layering in Web3 components, the project appears to be positioning token economics around an existing service rather than a purely speculative model. That approach aligns with the broader Depin thesis, where blockchains are used to coordinate real-world infrastructure and improve transparency, community participation, and pricing efficiency.
Depin has become an increasingly visible theme in crypto as projects seek to link token incentives with physical services. Supporters argue that individuals and businesses can contribute resources such as storage, computing power, or connectivity in exchange for crypto rewards, creating a more decentralized and community-owned infrastructure model. For Dabba, India’s large offline population could become a key proving ground for that strategy.
