ChainCatcher reports that cryptocurrency exchange Deepcoin has officially been granted a Bitcoin Service Provider (BSP) license by the Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador (Banco Central de Reserva). Under this license, Deepcoin is authorized to provide regulated Bitcoin-related services within El Salvador’s legal framework, including Bitcoin custody, trading, and fiat-to-Bitcoin exchange services. The approval places Deepcoin among a select group of international platforms, joining the likes of Binance and Bitfinex, which previously passed the stringent compliance review.
El Salvador is the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, operating a distinctive dual legal tender system with the U.S. dollar and Bitcoin. The BSP license issued by El Salvador’s central bank not only endorses a platform’s capability to handle both currencies but also subjects it to rigorous examination of its anti-money laundering (AML), counter-financing of terrorism (CFT), and risk management frameworks. The review process aligns with international banking standards, covering aspects such as client asset segregation, capital adequacy, cybersecurity protection, and ongoing surveillance. As a result, the BSP license is highly regarded in the industry and is often considered a “gold standard” for compliance among digital asset exchanges.
Prior to Deepcoin’s approval, only a handful of global exchanges—including Binance and Bitfinex—had successfully obtained the BSP license from El Salvador’s central bank. The license’s scarcity underscores its demanding requirements in terms of operational integrity and technical prowess. By securing this license, Deepcoin demonstrates that its technical security and compliance governance have reached the top tier of international exchanges and earned the highest recognition from a sovereign regulator. This milestone not only validates Deepcoin’s long-term commitment to regulatory adherence but also provides its users with an added layer of assurance.
Deepcoin has made “compliance first” a core principle since its inception. The acquisition of the Salvadoran BSP license is a landmark achievement in the exchange’s ongoing compliance journey. Moving forward, Deepcoin plans to accelerate its expansion into Latin America and other emerging markets, ensuring full alignment with local regulatory requirements while delivering safe, stable, transparent, and innovative digital asset trading services to users worldwide. Compliance is not just a foundation for sustainable growth; it is a critical force propelling the industry toward greater maturity.
