DeepSeek is seeking a new funding round that would value the company at about 500 billion yuan, or roughly $74 billion, according to The Information, which cited people familiar with the matter. The report said the company’s annualized revenue recently reached $400 million to $500 million, driven mainly by enterprise clients and developers using its models through APIs. It also said DeepSeek’s V4 API has a gross margin above 50%. Despite charging less than OpenAI and Anthropic, DeepSeek has cut the number of chips needed to run its models by optimizing infrastructure, the report said. Based on the high end of its annualized revenue, the planned valuation would represent about 148 times revenue. The report added that this fundraising is the same round previously described at a 480 billion yuan valuation, with the difference attributed to varying reporting methods. DeepSeek is also said to be preparing to bring in overseas investors, including from the Middle East, and allow them to invest in U.S. dollars.

DeepSeek is pursuing a new funding round that would value the company at about 500 billion yuan, or roughly $74 billion, according to The Information, which cited people familiar with the matter.

The report said DeepSeek’s annualized revenue recently reached $400 million to $500 million. Most of that revenue comes from enterprises and developers accessing its models through APIs. Its V4 API carries a gross margin above 50%, according to the report.

DeepSeek charges less than OpenAI and Anthropic, but has reduced the number of chips required to run its models through infrastructure optimization, the report said.

Using the top end of the annualized revenue range, the planned valuation works out to about 148 times revenue.

The report also said this is the same fundraising round that had previously been described at a 480 billion yuan valuation, or about $71 billion, with the difference reflecting slightly different reporting approaches.

DeepSeek is also preparing to bring in overseas investors, including those from the Middle East, and would allow them to invest in U.S. dollars.
