DeepSeek has raised about RMB 100 billion, or roughly $15 billion, in its latest funding round, according to Bloomberg, making it one of the largest financings in China. People familiar with the matter said the Hangzhou-based company lifted its fundraising target at least twice during talks with investors, first from RMB 50 billion to RMB 80 billion, before reaching the final amount. Bloomberg also reported that Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited, better known as CATL, and Tencent were among the biggest investors in the round. The new capital is set to support DeepSeek as it competes globally with U.S. artificial intelligence companies including Anthropic and OpenAI. The report frames the deal as a major financing event for China’s AI sector, with the final raise far above the company’s initial target during negotiations.
