Deloitte said it has completed an acqui-hire of the team behind Web3 infrastructure company Blocknative. At the same time, Blocknative announced on its website that it is winding down operations, with its API services and Gas Network set to remain online until June 19 before shutting off completely.
The announcement was made on Tuesday. Deloitte said the incoming team will focus on advancing Web3 innovation for Deloitte clients. The company did not disclose deal terms, and the announcement did not clarify whether all Blocknative employees will move under Deloitte. Even so, the transaction points to a clear shift: large professional services firms are absorbing crypto infrastructure talent directly.
Blocknative Reaches the End of Its Run
Founded in 2018, Blocknative built a strong profile as a blockchain infrastructure provider serving developers and institutional users. Its products centered on real-time mempool monitoring, gas fee forecasting and transaction management tools, along with a decentralized Gas Network that supplied live gas pricing data.
In its farewell statement, Blocknative said the company is going through a phased shutdown. CEO Matt Cutler said the team’s work spanned mempool visibility, transaction orchestration, block building, MEV auctions, private order flow, and transaction pricing. He also said those efforts were shaped by customers, protocol teams, wallet developers, researchers, and institutions seeking better solutions.
Crypto Consolidation Meets Institutional Expansion
The deal also reflects a broader consolidation trend across crypto infrastructure. The source article noted that smaller projects with weak business models or funding pressure, along with some core infrastructure providers, have recently announced layoffs or closures. DAO governance platform Tally was cited as one recent example.
At the same time, established firms such as Deloitte are increasing their crypto footprint. Deloitte has already been providing accounting, audit, and compliance advisory services to crypto companies in recent years. By bringing in the Blocknative team, it is adding more depth in blockchain data and technical consulting. Blocknative is leaving the market; its team is not disappearing, but moving into a much larger institution.
