Danmarks Nationalbank said stablecoin usage in Denmark remains limited and does not currently pose an immediate threat to domestic financial stability. At the same time, the central bank said the rapid global expansion of dollar-pegged stablecoins could expose Denmark to indirect risks tied to financial market volatility and liquidity conditions. According to the bank, there are currently no stablecoins denominated in Danish kroner in circulation, and both consumers and businesses make only limited use of such assets. It also noted that this could change if commercial banks, financial institutions and payment apps begin connecting to stablecoin infrastructure. The central bank pointed to USDT and USDC as the dominant players in the global stablecoin market, warning that turbulence in overseas stablecoin markets could be transmitted to Denmark through global liquidity channels and the U.S. financial system. Danmarks Nationalbank added that it is working with the European Central Bank to ensure that central bank money remains the primary settlement asset for interbank transactions.
