Background: From Bitcoin Payments to a Historical Narrative
A new documentary, tentatively titled This Time Is Different, is in production, directed by Parker Worthington and produced in association with Michael Markle. The project originally focused on Bitcoin payments, with early footage shot in 2024 around open-source payments infrastructure. However, after Worthington made repeated trips to Puerto Rico to shoot with David Bailey's team, the scope expanded dramatically. Early discussions about taking a company public — then still referred to in hushed terms — began to surface and became the film's central thread.
Core Event: Nakamoto Inc.'s Public Listing and $710 Million Raise
The documentary chronicles the public launch of Nakamoto Inc. (NASDAQ: NAKA), formed through a reverse merger with KindlyMD and backed by approximately $710 million in PIPE financing — at the time among the largest such financings ever for a digital asset company. The film aims to capture the full arc of a four-year cycle: the highs and lows of launching a public Bitcoin company, the quietude of SEC obligations, and the resilience required to navigate a bear market while executing a multi-entity consolidation strategy. David Bailey noted on the live desk at the Bitcoin 2026 Conference, "I'm glad you got it on camera so people can see the raw passion that goes into this business. A lot of people say people in bitcoin got lucky… this documentary shows the conviction you need to be in bitcoin."
Release Plans and Film Tone
Worthington told Bitcoin Magazine that what may look chaotic from the outside reflects a much more deliberate and complex story than any stock ticker alone suggests, pointing to Bitcoin Magazine, UTXO Management, BTC Inc., and Nakamoto's broader media and investment arms as evidence of an operating business with real revenue and reach. A release window of winter 2027 has been discussed, though the project could extend into 2028 depending on the broader crypto market cycle. The film is expected to be feature-length with potential distribution via a streaming platform. The team expressed interest in packaging it as a standalone piece before exploring any series format. Note: Bitcoin Magazine is published by BTC Inc., a subsidiary of Nakamoto Inc. (NASDAQ: NAKA).
